"It is the last weekend of the season for Amy Raye Latour to get away. Driven to spend days alone in the wilderness, Amy Raye, mother of two, is compelled by the quiet and the rush of nature. But this time, her venture into a remote area presents a different set of dangers than Amy Raye has planned for and she finds herself on the verge of the precarious edge that she's flirted with her entire life. When Amy Raye doesn't return to camp, ranger Pru Hathaway and her dog respond to the missing person's call. After an unexpected snowfall and few leads, the operation turns into a search and recovery. Pru, though, is not resigned to that. The more she learns about the woman for whom she is searching, and about Amy Raye's past, the more she suspects that Amy Raye might yet be alive. Pru's own search becomes an obsession for a woman whose life is just as mysterious as the clues she has left behind. As the novel follows Amy Raye and Pru in alternating threads, Breaking Wild assumes the white-knuckled pace of a thriller laying bare Amy Raye's ultimate reckoning with the secrets of her life, and Pru's dogged pursuit of the woman who, against all odds, she believes she can find"--

After eighty pages in, had to quit. Slow to progress.

The first half of this book was profoundly boring, and I considered not finishing it, but it finally picked up as the survival story grew. That part was interesting, but the deep analysis of the characters motivations and history...i did not care about. Sorry.

Devoured the story in 24 hours. If you’re reading it-plan accordingly.

I liked and equally disliked the main character in this thriller. An avid and experienced bow hunter, Amy gets lost in the wilderness she claims she knows so well. A major search ensues as a result. Along the way, we learn the back stories of most of the characters and the human capacity to persevere despite the wounds of the past and the perils of the present. I would recommend even if you don't like hunting or edge of your seat thrillers.

A story of two women, one seeking a sort of redemption while hunting alone, the other pursuing her as a rescuer. Chapters go back and forth from one character to the other. The setting is great and the writing acceptable. But I felt the continuous backstories for both were distracting. I didn’t care much for the hunter for both her history and her behavior in getting lost.

Definitely recommended - survival, strength and bravery, thrilling ending. The outdoor setting (deep, snowy woods with wildlife abound) is also well portrayed. Character development was deep, almost to a fault - lots of back stories about the two protagonist ladies. Plus, it wasn't a fairy tail ending - which I also appreciated. Expect not to be able to put this book down.

Recommended to me by my sister, this was a great read. Two women whose lives intersect without any actual physical contact until the very end. Both Amy Rae, the hunter, and Pru, the ranger, have complicated pasts (as do most of us) and we find out about them as the story unfolds with each woman's POV changing with each chapter.

Survivor stories are among my favorites, so naturally I enjoyed this book a lot. Vivid description and detail of Amy Raye battling the elements to stay alive, and Pru using her outdoor experience to find her. You'll feel like you are right there with them. Wanting to find out Amy Raye's fate will keep you turning the pages. The one thing I didn't care for in the book was the backstory of Amy Raye's "problem." I thought it was a little weird and out of synch with the otherwise outdoorsy feel of this book. But it didn't keep me from liking the book. A great read on a cold, snowy day. Recommend.
