Birds Near and Far

April is a fine month to turn our attention to wild birds. With the longer days of springtime, there are more opportunities to hear the joyous songs of our busy local birds. I enjoyed a melodious treat recently on an early evening walk in my neighborhood. (more)

Sibley is the logical successor to Audubon and Peterson, writing and illustrating his guides which provide pretty much everything an amateur birder needs to identify our feathered friends. Sibley covers appearance of both adults & juveniles, their flight characteristics, range maps and a short summary of birdsong & calls because, after all, we often hear a bird before we see him. With this guide, I've identified all the birds I saw on my vacation as well as the ones hanging around my deck!
