This book is out of my usual wheelhouse -- it's my first vampire/Urban Fantasy read and it was SO enjoyable. It came out in 1991 and was re-released for its 25th anniversary this year. Jewelle Gomez is a compelling writer and moves readers from the 1800s to 2050 through the eyes of Gilda, an escaped slaved-turned vampire. We meet so many interesting characters and encounter a huge range of experiences. I heard a rumor that Gomez is planning another book and I *really* hope that's true!
