I love all things Kate DiCamillo. Bink and Gollie have a special relationship. The illustrations in this series also add to its charm. A fun read for 1st grade and up about the value of a good friend and how to keep them.

The readers in our family do not like graphic novels in general, but we all really enjoyed reading this book. Kate DiCamillo has became one of our favorite authors. The story is funny and witty, especially when Bink said "Do I smell pancakes?", and Gollie answered "No. You do not." We also really like the illustration on the first page where it shows Gollie's spectacular tree house, and we won't mind to live in such house ourselves.

I did like the premise of this children's book: young independent girl, experiencing solo adventures, and her faithful, less adventurous friend. But, I was startled by the ending of the book, which I found unnecessarily mean spirited.

Three vignettes about two friends. Bink is short, wild, and irrepressible. Gollie is tall, sophisticated, and orderly. Does this make their friendship smooth? Not always. Do they always figure it out? Yes, absolutely. And they have plenty of adventures: Gollie climbs a mountaintop in the Andes, and Bink brings her pet fish to the movies. This is one of the best all-ages comics I’ve ever read, so good that I’d have read the other two books myself even if my son hadn’t been interested. But we ended up reading them together, and they were also fantastic. DiCamillo and McGhee choose their words with exquisite care, and Fucile’s cartoons are a delight.

This is a really delightful series about friendship. It is creative, quirky and lots of fun. Although this is clearly intended for slightly older children, my 4.5 year old son was completely captivated (so was I!) by Bink and Gollie and we read all 3 books. My son is now hoping that Kate DiCamillo publishes more.

(Thanks to Main library staff for putting this out on display, we would never have found it without your help!)

bink and gollie have many adventures and one of them was when gollie pretended to be on a journey climbing a mountain and nobody could knock on her door.but bink knocked and gollie let her come in after she was done. by michael

Put together two Minnesotans and one animator and what do you get? Bink and Gollie, of course. Bink is a diminutive pixie, all wild blond hair and a penchant for falling madly in love with things. Gollie, in contrast, is a staid and measured companion, unwilling to be pulled into Bink’s obsessions if she can possibly help it. The two are best friends and in this book we are treated to three of their adventures. In the first, Bink falls head over heels for a pair of brightly colored socks that irk Gollie to the extreme. A compromise must be reached. In the second tale Gollie is determined to scale the heights of the Andes Mountains in her living room but finds it difficult to do so when Bink keeps knocking on her front door. In the third, Bink becomes enamored of a goldfish. Gollie cannot see its appeal, but when a terrible accident occurs she’s the one who knows exactly what to do. If you seek marvelous companions, look no further than the tales you’ll find here.
