"A contemporary of science fiction masters Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, and Arthur C. Clarke, Nathan Arkwright was a seminal science fiction author of the twentieth century. At the end of his life he becomes reclusive and cantankerous, refusing to appear before or interact with his legion of fans. Little did anyone know, Nathan was putting into motion his true, timeless legacy. Convinced that humanity cannot survive on Earth, his Arkwright Foundation dedicates itself to creating a colony on an Earth-like planet several light years distant. Fueled by Nathan's legacy, generations of Arkwrights are drawn together, and pulled apart, by the enormity of the task and weight of their name."--Provided by publisher.

One of the best books I've read this year. Follows in the footsteps of the Greats and expands on the archetypes that are strewn throughout the genre. Absolutely amazing story that spans space and time and spacetime and shows how science fiction shifts and shapes the reality of technology and its advancement. Great for anyone who likes science fiction. Especially good for those who write it.

An amazing story spanning numerous generations of a family and their dream of interstellar flight. The story starts off a little slow but quickly picks up the pace as the efforts to achieve an impossible vision become reality, but are constantly threatened by both human nature and the unknown.
