Really impressive memoir. You are not going to get a blow by blow history of Ms. Leon's time in the band. Instead, you get to feel what it is like to be a young woman in a band, lonely and longing for more in life, shattering the illusion that being in a band is always glamorous. This was much more interesting than Kim Gordon's recent memoir, Girl in a Band. I could not even get through that (boring) book. Ms. Leon writes about Ms. Gordon, how she was intimidated by her rock-babe status. I'm happy for this underdog -- she wrote a much more interesting memoir. This was very refreshing -- a portrait of a young adult from a somewhat well-to-do family who tried new things, got jobs to get by, had roommates, ate cheap food, and didn't have her parents helicoptering all over her. Kids, you're not as fragile as you think.
