It's the 2070s, and mankind has conquered space, making interplanetary travel possible and igniting the imaginations of the world. It's also vastly increased the amount of dangerous space debris, and someone has to clean it up. Hachimaki, Yuri, and Fee are a crew on that beat.

Planetes Volume 1 is sharp and well thought-out.

And it's over 500 pages long.

Planetes imagines a realistic future where garbage becomes a dangerous problem in space and astronauts will have to become garbage haulers.

There's moon bases and moon people, family drama, subtle psychology, fun space physics, terrorist bombings, and a surprising amount of deep thinking.

But the depth is tastefully offset with wit and dry humour.

Humanity has reached Mars and is now looking to Jupiter. Environmental terrorists want to stop corporations from raping resources like they did on Earth and the moon. A small team of debris clearing astronauts get caught in the middle of it all.

I can't wait to find Volume 2. This one is worth my money.
