Fascinating series. Harder to watch than the earlier seasons. There's a lot more on-screen violence. August 1944 was a difficult month in Villeneuve.

I loved the first five seasons of the French Television Series "The Village"! I have requested the KCLS purchase Seasons Six and Seven of "The Village" as well. I hope I am lucky enough to see the completion of the series!

I think the major theme of this whole series is "Everybody has warts".

So much idealism, cynicism, love, hatred, truth, lies, good, evil, etc. – nobody's perfect would be an understatement!

This season was more like a soap opera. The characters did things that made no sense, the Vichy military acted viciously when they knew the Germans were leaving France. It would have been more interesting to see how the villagers responded rather than focusing on Antoine who was totally unappealing.

Interesting character development and changes in human behavior according to circumstances. Some episodes are streched far too long.

I've been fascinated by this series, but season 5, taking place in August & Sept. 1944 after the liberation of Paris, was almost too much to watch. I'd had, evidently, an oversimplified view of what the occupation was like for the French, and of what the Resistance was like. I'd not realized it had so many different groups in it, and that they ended up opposing each other nearly as much as they opposed the Nazis. Their behavior in the early days of liberation was excessive, brutal, and as nearly as I could tell, not loyal to anyone except to each his/her own. All the sides in the conflict seem to have been sanctimonious, self-righteous, and judgemental towards all the other sides, and unwilling to grant anybody any space for human error. I ended up not liking or respecting any of the main characters by the end.

I couldn't understand a word of this even with subtitles which were lengthy & quick on/off screen. Gave up quickly. Good thing I read about this in other books....
