"The president of the United States stands on an outdoor stage, flanked by powerful members of his administration and party. Television crews are preparing for broadcast. High above the stage, on a nearby rooftop, a decorated sniper adjusts the scope on his rifle. Afterwards, America will never be the same. Jake Grafton and Tommy Carmellini suddenly find themselves on the wrong side of the law when a public act of violence throws the country into chaos just before a presidential election. After martial law is declared and rioting begins, Grafton and Carmellini must risk everything to unravel a massive conspiracy and help a new resistance movement rise up against an unimaginable enemy."--

One of the worst right-wing-extremist contrived tripe I've ever encountered. Also poorly written with absurd suspended disbelief premises.

I enjoyed Coonts' prior Grafton novels. While reasonably well written, the premise of this book is ridiculous.

FYI - LaGuardia airport is in Queens, not Brooklyn (p 455).

Entertaining book.

Lo, how the mighty are fallen. Coonts used to be one of the top three miltary thriller writers, but, like Clancy before him, has fallen victim to the "I'm a successful writer so my opinions must be right" syndrome. He's surpassed Clancy in the "I'm slightly to the right of Ayn Rand" stakes. Yes, it's obvious he voted for Trump: same level of mixed up pseudo-conservative ideology, and same disregard for facts.

When he can drag himself away from pontificating, the action sequences are still pretty good, but they are almost hidden in the sermonizing.

Great Book. I am hoping that this book is turned into a movie. That's how great the book was.

There are other writers who put their political leanings into their writing, like Brad Thor for example, but I have never tried to read anything that was as big a disappointment as this piece of garbage. Even Thor doesn't go this far in what he says, but Coonts is actually proud of having written a book that attacks ALL liberals. Easily the worst book I have ever attempted to read.

If you dislike President Obama, Hilary Clinton and think they are more evil than Hitler, you will enjoy this book.

Sadly this book is racist as well as open propaganda for Donald Trump, the Republican party and the National Rifle Association.

Not a great read like Mr. Coonts previous books featuring the characters of Jake Grafton and Tommy Carmellini.

This book is a great disappointment after reading many good adventure novels by this author. Stephen Coonts has had the gall to use this book to make an outrageous attack on the current US President and the Democrats generally. It is racist to the extreme and clearly designed to prop up the rantings of Donald Trump in an election year.
To use a fictional book as a vehicle for his extreme right propaganda would be a deceitful and immoral act by anybody but for this very successful and popular author to do so magnifies the crime.
Compared with his previous books - which I enjoyed - this is just graffiti on a toilet wall.

If you drive a battered pickup with a full gun rack, and confederate flag and "Kill them all and let God sort them out" bumper stickers then this is your kind of book. Right wing, at times racist drivel that would shame even Tom Clancy. Coonts used to write fairly middle of the road spy adventure stuff. The ex-armed forces background showed but it wasn't offensive. Everything in this book pretty much is unless you espouse fairly extreme right wing views. His last couple of books had some pretty extreme views (what pushed his anti-French button in the last saucer book?) but this one goes overboard and is over-obviously targeting the 2016 election season.
