The author primarily focuses on Paul English - one of the cofounders of Kayak. Paul's story is traced from school days through to his latest venture - Blade. Paul finds that he is a natural at programming and this combined with watching his father negotiate. Paul suffers from bipolar disorder but during the manic phases he is at his most productive best. Paul uniquely combines technical depth in software development, a passion for customer service, top notch negotiating skills, with a bundle of energy. The at times surreal world of the venture capitalist with the driving need to hit homeruns is illuminated. There is a lot of inside story told some of which is interesting and some of Paul's health and people relations less interesting. There are asides less related to Paul in the book - seemingly as fillers.
