Incredible that this album is from nearly half a century back; as I can hear the influence all through the current sounds out there. Unfortunately track 9 on this-( apparently the VPL's only copy) is scratch damaged; this is a real bummer, as this track is just crazy good, with some incredibly, insanely fantastic guitar work. Would love to see a new copy appear on the shelves... Still worth checking out despite the frustrating tease. **UPDATE** Just happened across an album which contains this track (which is called "Negativeland"); two days after posting this comment - it's a comp by Mojo called "Beyond Saturn" ("15 Mind Blowing Cosmic Tracks") inspired by Peter Weller that is available through the VPL. I love it when karmic synchronicity occurs like this like this.
Krautrock initially sounds derisive, but it has become one of the most influential musical movements of the past 4 decades. It sounded like the future and much of it still does. Along with other seminal Krautrock groups Kraftwerk, Faust and Can, duo Neu! have seen their stock rise and rise. This seminal debut album, from 1971, is a perfect entryway to their sleek, futureforward sound and to drummer Klaus Dinger's motorik beat, a beat that seems as if it could go on forever. These first few Neu! albums were a huge influence on Bowie when he was making "Station to Station" and his "Berlin" albums.
