I liked the voice of the narrator on the audio version. I learned about daily life for strikers in the1930's, even down to descriptions of furniture, cars, clothing and meals.
Steinbeck evokes an era of simple, uncluttered lives concerned with epic ideas about the nature of society, alternative forms of government, and the distribution of resources. A blunt contrast to today.
