At age 23 and adrift, Forsthoefel spends a year walking coast to coast via a southern route. He records conversations ostensibly to gain a sense of America, but his self-focus on "who am I" and "why am I here" turn the book into a discovery of self without resolving the questions. Bottom line: less about America and too much Andrew.
