There are so many people in the world. Over seven billion! They come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and colors. Some are happy, and some are grumpy. Some live in tall towers in the city, while others live in cottages in the field. Some like to read, and some like to sing. And yet, even with so many people in this world, there is no one quite like you!

Small but engrossing illustrations compliment the this books SONDER - the realization that every person in this world has a personal life as vivid and complex as your own.

I love the idea of using this book as an introduction to the topic of social studies for a grade school audience.

A matter-of-fact yet interesting read aloud that highlights how humans are alike yet different, each having unique qualities. Evidence is explained and illustrated in ways children can relate -- through references to appearance, feelings, homes and beliefs. The well-illustrated pictures do a very good job of reflecting the diversity of the book's message. This book could provide a thoughtful introduction to a social studies unit such as communities of the world.
