A galactic romp based on a French comic book that the director loved as a kid. It took a lot of advanced tech to make it so he had to wait for the tech to become available. Filled with all kinds of interesting characters Bob the Pirate who has a sub, Jolly the Pimp (played by Ethan Hawke) and Bubble (played by Rihanna) the shapeshifting stripper —so incredible it’s almost worth watching it for that. I enjoyed this film. Depending on what you want & expect, you’ll either enjoy it or not.

Unless you have interest in Harry Potter in outer space, stay clear of this mess. No cutting edge special effects could redeem this teenage fantasy. Nothing here to see, folks, move along.

Borrowed this movie and watched it twice before bringing it back. Within the week I found it at the store for $5. Directed by Luc Besson who has written and directed The Fifth Element, The Transporter series and Kiss of the Dragon to name a few of my favorites.

Pretty. Storyline had some promise, but it stopped making sense. And the character of the male lead, left a lot to be desired.

I really wanted to like this movie. The 5th Element is one of my favorite movies and since Luc Besson did such an amazing job with that last space opera I figured this one would be good too. It's just a real shame they did such a poor job casting this one. The acting is so so bad. The main dude in this one is not good. Stiff acting, poorly delivered lines, ridiculous side characters and aliens that are just silly and don't make any sense. Skip this one.

Prepare for a cosmic, galactic rollercoaster with Valerian and the City of One Thousand Planets based on the novel by French author Jean-Claude Mezieres. This sweeping film is steeped in futurist, science fiction and is reminiscent of astronomical adventure classics with it's high technology focus, sophisticated advanced pluralistic society and intergalactic, planetary web of united forces dueling for good or for evil in an age of space exploration and space colonization. With it's incredibly vivid graphic effects and bright cinematography, the special digital effects are arguably unrivaled in their intensity and attention to micro-landscape detail. Viewers will feel immersed in a colorful, high intensity, busy, urban landscape where the alien and the unusual are anything but outlandish and strange and where augmented, virtual reality is a norm for even the most mundane of tasks as well as thrilling ones including visitation of different landscapes. With the extinction of a beautiful, primitive, indigenous, native people on the horizon from the planet Mul, an indigenous princess's dying wish, in the wake of intergalactic colonialism, is to summon the investigative powers of Valerian (played by Dane DeHaan), a United Human Federation Soldier and thus his solider partner-in-force Lauraline (played by Cara Delevingne). After Princess Liho-Minaa's wish manifests itself as a form of dream telepathy, Valerian is set to determine what space colonial tragedy happened to Princess Liho-Minaa's tribe, after a series of events leads him to the discovery Planet Mul was not without an indigenous population but instead was the foci of a type of intergalactic United Human Federation indigenous people from the Planet Mul's existential crisis motivated by greed, political expansion and colonization.- Review Written by Danielle

Great science fiction movie!!! The production value is great, the visuals are stunning, and there's even a song and dance by Rhianna !! ( who plays..wait for it... a shapeshifting stripper!) If you want a good sci-fi escape, this is a good place to land. Decent story, loads of good CGI, and great aliens. Dont listen to the bad reviews below, they must be stuffy party poopers, because this one was fun! A bit tounge in cheek, but in a good way.

It took me at least half an hour to get into the film, but it's well worth the wait...a lot of fun. Repeat. Lot of fun.

The mythology of the people on Mül :

Our planet is very beautiful and we live in harmony with the elements. Our activities are fishing and collecting energy. That energy makes fertile soil, control the wind and the waves. Two years we performed on land and sea.
We lived in harmony for centuries. Until doomsday arrives. The sky outside our planet a big battle going on. The war between the two parties, we do not recognize. ...
