I think this book could benefit from some editing and I occasionally found the tone a little condescending. however, the information inside is so good those issues can be overlooked.

I have read a few self defense/survival books, but much of what I read in this book was new to me. the book focuses not on self defense moves, but avoiding a bad situation before it happens. there is information on situational awareness, what criminals look for in a victim and who is most likely to be the perpetrator.

I learned the most from the section about alcohol and date rape. I didn't know that young adults can get drunk and get alcohol poisoning from half the alcohol I would take to effect an older adult of the same size. or that date rape drugs are often carried in eye drop containers. and that bartenders and bouncers can work with rapists to help them drug women. this would be a really good book for women to read before going off to college.

Good solid overview of the role intuition plays in self-protection. I especially liked the focus on teaching skills at an earlier age for girls. Minor nitpick: the book goes out of scope at times by too broad a reach (how to build a safe room?) but in general, discusses difficult topics in a level, practical tone. Of note is that both the male and the female authors successfully grew past their own sexual attacks.
