I actually loved this book, and I'm not really pirate person, but I am a fan of the misunderstood underdog. It all came together and was pretty fastpaced at the end. Not the absolute best, but I got really attached to the characters, so still very good.

I found this story interesting and the end seemed fitting. The main character in the story is 11-year-old Fidelia Quail. At the beginning of the book her parents, famous marine scientists Dr. and Dr. Quail, are killed in an accident. A little while later, she is kidnapped by Merrick the Monstrous, who is the most notorious pirate to ever sail the sea. He wants her to retrieve his treasure from the ocean floor. The pirates then sail off with her and she soon discovers that the more to Merrick the monstrous than most people think.
I liked the story in this book; it was well thought out and interesting. I also liked the way Merrick was portrayed as a character. It gave you just enough insight to realize that, hey this guy isn’t just you average, black hearted, and greedy pirate. The main thing I disliked about this book was that at some points it felt slow, like the story was just dragging out. Sometimes it felt like it went on and on and on about one thing, to a point where it had me wondering when the book was going to move on.
I think someone who likes adventure and reading about pirates would enjoy this book. I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

This book fed all my desires for adventures at sea without having to leave my Minnesota home. What wonderful story telling! This adventure had me hooked, and I'm 26 years old!
