BOY do I miss my U2 of old during the WAR period. I'd even take a little more fluffy Achtung than the last couple of releases. This one is a little step ahead of the sleeping pill of Songs of Innocence but I'd like to see the boys rock out a little again.
Songs are nice. They bounce right along. But the lyrics are kinda fluffy, not terribly deep (anything for a rhyme).
Callbacks to previous records, shoutouts to the current state of affairs, and "letters" to the people in the band's life. The album is somewhat of a slow burn -- there's not a "Where the Streets Have No Name" or "Pride (in the Name of Love) here, but really, how could there be?
