After the twentieth century's devastating series of wars, the world's governments banded together into one globe-spanning entity, committed to peace at all costs. Ensuring that peace is the Vulcan supercomputer, responsible for all major decisions. But some people don't like being taken out of the equation. And others resent the idea that the Vulcan is taking the place of God. As the world grows ever closer to all-out war, one functionary frantically tries to prevent it. But the Vulcan computer has its own plans, plans that might not include humanity at all.

Sure you can be a casual PK Dick fan and just read his best known work ("Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", "Minority Report," "A Scanner Darkly"), but that's really only scratching the surface of one of the most prolific, visionary, and influential of sci-fi authors. 1960's "Vulcan's Hammer" imagines a world in which a computer runs the world and machines declare war on humans. Pulpy and paranoid, Dick's novel presages so many of the-robots -are -taking over films ("The Terminator" series) and books ("Robopocalypse") that would follow.
"It's hopeless to imagine that a grass-roots revolutionary movement can overthrow a modern bureaucratic system that's backed up with modern technology and elaborate industrial organization."
