Add a CommentIf you look closely at a patch of moss along a trail through old-growth forest, you'll recognize several different species. This book helps you identify a huge range of different greenery, from the giant sitka spruce to the moss and lichen growing on its limbs.
This is my favorite general field guide for Pacific Northwest plants - trees, flowers, grasses, ferns, moss, etc. A great starter if you want to learn more about the plants in your yard, or that you see when out and about on the beaches or in the forests. Lots of great information packed into each entry.
This is it. This is the real deal. This is the book that's slightly too heavy to carry with you every time you hike around the Pacific Northwest, but it's waterproof, just in case. Great color pictures, lots of information on each plant (including historic pioneer and Native American usage!), and they're grouped together in a way that's fairly easy to figure out. If you have any interest in what those plants are that you hike by, what that flower is by the side of the road, what that striking tree is that you see on your way home every night, then you should check out this book. And then probably buy it, eventually.
