Space! A sentient space ship! Complicated relationships! Strong female lead! I loved this and can't wait to listen to the next one!

This is a very good turnpaging YA novel, the first in a projected series. The protagonist is a teenaged rebel, and she has a good voice. The universe in which the story evolves, while given in broad strokes, is credible with just a little 'willing suspension of disbelief', and our knowledge of it is pieced out as the novel continues. If there is any negative to this book, it may lie in the limited emotions of Zara Cole, our heroine. It is difficult to find the right emotional pitch for YA audience; Passion, Anger and Betrayal are big one note emotions. Truth words, I am not the demographic for which the this is written, but I have already ordered the follow up novel "Honor Bound" and am looking forward to learning more, about the Universe and how the characters develop.

This is a great new series that I suspect will have many fans in a few years. 13+ Follows the story of young Zara Cole a street urchin with a fondness for justice and robbery. When this criminal mysteriously gets appointed to become a "Honor" the highest honor (mind the pun) that any citizen can receive she is sent up into space to train on a mysterious alien called a Leviathan. His name is Nadim and him and Zara have a special connection. But is the over the top stuff concealing a dangerous secret? And why was Zara chosen?

Very, very good book. Kinda confusing at first...Nadim is a living being not ship, fyi.

It definitely wasn’t what I’d thought it be like. Seemed like a regular dystopian sci-fi, but it really surprised me. Better than I thought.

I recommend!

Sentient alien spaceships and stories about friendship! Nadim is one of the best characters I've read in a long while and I loved the friendship that he, Zara, and Bea build.
