Young black men are so often thought of in terms of stereotypes. Through short, five line poems and incredible, stylistically diverse illustrations, Medina and the thirteen artists in this book manage to break down those stereotypes and showcase the multifaceted personalities and experiences that truly represent the black boys of today. Teachers and adults will find this a fantastic tool to teach poetry to youngsters, and young black boys will be able to see elements of themselves and their peers reflected in every page.
