On September 29, 1981, Peter Turner received a phone call that would change his life. His former lover, Hollywood actress Gloria Grahame, had collapsed in a Lancaster hotel and was refusing medical attention. He took her into his chaotic and eccentric home in Liverpool to see her through her last days. Though their affair had ended years before, it was to him that she turned in her final hour of need. Takes place over the course of three weeks in Turner's working class family home.

Interesting but not a good film.

I have seen a number of movies with Annette Bening. After watching part of this film, I have concluded she is not that good of an actress. She is now 60 years old, but to me looks like she is the same age as her husband Warren Beatty who is now 81 years old. I will be avoiding watching any further movies with her in it. I don't see any versatility in her acting ability nor do I understand her current appeal as an actress. Have not seen her in anything (apart from American Beauty) which I thought was worth watching.

Wonderful, joyful, heartbreaking movie with performances as good as you'll see anywhere. Very real chemistry between Annette Bening and Jamie Bell, with both at the top of their game in very poignant, vulnerable performances. Annette as always is fearless. How she doesn't have an Oscar by now is beyond me, but this performance is simply terrific.

where are the Oscars for this movie, which should've gotten awards for everything, best film, best acting for everybody, best cinematography, best direction, best, even, editing - the time travel edits were entrancing - best script, Annette Bening is the definitive Gloria Grahame, but Jamie Bell holds his magnificent own beside her, as well as do Julie Walters, and the ever luminous Vanessa Redgrave - bring Kleenex, the last half hour will destroy you
