Wow, what a ride! First of all, I love the setting: "creepy, crumbling mansion full of secrets" is of course a Gothic staple (and one that I can rarely resist), and this novel with its cast of aristocratic guests and beleaguered staff also calls to mind a kind of Downton Abbey gone mad -- just imagine that every character is a Thomas or an O'Brien, and that they're all trying to murder each other. There are also shades of Clue here (secret passageways!) and of course, one would be remiss not to mention Groundhog Day. I loved that mix of allusions to nostalgic source material (whether they were intentional or not), which set the stage for what is probably the twistiest, most head-scratching plot you're likely to read this year.

I was definitely a skeptical reader, and as of up to 75% done with the book, I didn't believe that the author would be able to satisfyingly tie everything up. I'm happy to say that I was wrong to doubt. To other readers who are having the same thought: stick with it. The payoff is worth it! You may become frustrated along the way, as the author keeps piling up question after question after question with nary an answer in sight. But again: keep going! Everything will make sense in the end.

I admittedly could not tell you whether or not all of the time-hopping stands up to intense logical scrutiny, but again, I don't think that particularly matters. The point is that it's really satisfying watching as the pieces (finally!!) start falling into place, and for that reason, I give this one a thumbs-up and my recommendation to mystery lovers. Check it out!

Buckle up your seatbelts, readers! This is a mindbending, genreblasting rollercoaster of a read. As described it contains elements of Groundhog Day and Quantum Leap. With all there is to learn in the eight days given to our protagonist to solve the mystery, will he even believe Evelyn is worth saving?
Reminiscent of "Dark Matter" by Blake Crouch as you are doing mental gymnastics and a fabulous choice for book groups. This edition even had discussion questions included.

A hearty thank you to Sourcebooks and Edelweiss for a digital ARC of this captivating new title.

This was an amazing murder mystery--the twists and turns kept me reading chapter after chapter. It's like a mix of Life after Life by Kate Atkinson and an Agatha Christie novel with a bit of science fiction thrown in.
