A little bit of this, a little bit of that. Basically, the book goes over options and strategies for people who might have to cope on their own later when the infirmities of age set in. It's meant to be positive and upbeat, not depressing. I think it's written for people who've hit their 40's and fifties. Beyond that age, most people will already know about assisted living and so on.
Examples cited by the author seem pretty well-heeled and laden with choices not available to the less affluent. She does not discuss the cost of these options. In a later chapter, she suggests that childless solo agers deliberately insert themselves into the lives of younger neighbors and distant relations in order to cultivate possible future caregivers, a solution that seems both unrealistic and crass.
