"Heather Havrilesky attempts to disrupt our cultural delusions and false dichotomies, to unearth moralistic interpretations of mundane human behaviors and interrogate so-called mistakes that we've slowly internalized, and to question the glorification of suffering, dishonesty, romantic fantasy, conquest, predation, and perfectionism"--

I liked these essays for the way they pointed to the ways Western consumerist capitalism tries to make us feel bad. I think Havrilesky didn't address enough towards how to make things better for a collective rather than just ourselves. Even the idea of how to see "this as enough" is only looked at in terms of an individual and not a person enmeshed in other lives they actually care about. It isn't enough to figure out "this is enough" for yourself if you are trying to live with people who don't think the same way. There's nothing in here about bridging that gap. At least when you read this kind of thing in the context of a monastic tradition, there's an implicit community that you can join. So I agreed with this book but was frustrated by its inability to break the atomism that she's decrying.
