I did not care for this movie. Too much violence and killing. Parts of it I did not understand. Waste of time.

This is a very grim movie about mental illness. There’s nothing fun and very little that’s entertaining. For the most part I felt uncomfortable while watching. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but given the Batman association I was expecting something a bit lighter. This is not a comic book superhero romp and definitely not for kids. I’m not sure that I recommend it though it was well done.

For all the publicity and all of these completely undeserved nominations - EXTREMELY disappointing.
I really have NO clue why this movie won anything at all. Yes, the main character Arthur is well portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, but this whole picture has just a very grim, dark plot with no climax and any sort of a punchline at all. Certainly "Joker's" filmmakers completely forgot what the cinematography is all about - the storytelling, that needs to be told well enough to keep the viewers engaged. "Joker" fails in every possible way, it is predictable, ugly and worst of all - boring. I now understand why it was so easy to borrow it - nobody wants to watch it and there is a reason for it - this movie is simply a TURKEY and deserves maximum half star out of 5 - at most. Pity it has stolen an Oscar for the leading male role from Di Caprio, who got robbed again. Watching it is a waste of precious 2 hrs and 2 minutes of your life, don't even think about it - there is really nothing in there....

When evaluating a film I don't care for personally, I try to imagine who would like it, and why? And usually make a fairly long list, because taste, and what people want from a movie is subjective. With Joker, I could think of only two audiences: people who don't usually watch serious dramas (let alone films like the King of Comedy and Taxi Driver, which are obvious "inspirations"), and Joaquin Phoenix fans. Phoenix won a Best Actor Oscar for this film, but he should also have won an MVP, because he is literally the only outstanding reason watch.

Loved it in the theater, but rewatching it now, it's very derivative and ham-fisted. Joaquin is great though

It was just to odd, weird, and strange for me.

This film has little in common with the comic superhero genre.
High-paced action not the focus in an amazing character study which makes the talent of a Robert De Niro pale in comparison to the performance by Joaquin Phoenix.

Heartbreaking. I might have appreciated this movie pre-pandemic, but the sadness that spills off the screen from the characters and the set was more than I could handle right now. I fully recognize this is the origin story for a villain, but I found it especially bleak and depressing. Thanks a lot, 2020! For now, it goes on the 'watch again later' list because Joaquin Phoenix is an incredible actor for this role and he definitely gives an award-winning performance.

The trailer is absolutely nothing like the film. When I watched the film I turned it off after about 30 minutes because it was so slow and boring. A gigantic disappointment and a complete waste of time.

Batman is never involved nor mentioned. Arthur Fleck descends into madness while living in Gotham. It's the origin of The Joker. Phoenix is superb. A drama.

The worst part of having a mental illness is people expect you to behave as if you don't.
