Unlike catvlucky I think this film hit the Palm D'or in Cannes and the multi-Academy Awards for a reason...and it's not a true story!! It's called fiction.
The question and answer session afterward as a bonus is so helful too. I was suprised by his answers about the set design and some of the cast points.
Brilliant.

I just don't believe poor people would take advantage like this movie suggests.
We rented it because of the Oscar win. But was a waste of time to watch.
The family gets lucky breaks & then ends up in worse shape then they started.

Deserved the best picture award. One of the most intriguing movies I've seen in a long time.

Five stars for the first hour and a half. No stars for turning this delightful film into a violent one. Kristi & Abby Tabby

I'm glad I saw this award-winning movie but this disturbing social satire is hard to watch. The word "parasite" apples to all three class groups (one rich/two poor) in the story. Throughout the film, the poor people are cliche and comic in their vulgarity, in their ability to endure. The rich people are cliche and comic in their insular out-of-touch behaviour, in their arrogance. The class groups underestimate one another. I watched the ending again after listening to the Director advising symbolism could be found by "following the knife." In the final birthday party scenes Mr. Park's little boy sees his "ghost" again, Mr. Kim experiences true humiliation, and you witness Kevin's escape. Earlier scenes reveal Mr. Park's attitude toward Mr. Kim. Just when you think Mr. Park "likes" Mr. Kim a cruel power dynamic surfaces. Mr. Park never allows anyone to "cross a line". Mr. Park feels safe in his power, in his certainty, that Mr. Kim has a "place" to maintain if he wants to keep his chauffeur job. But class structure, power, subservience, and humiliation also exist between the two poor groups. IF the two poor groups had cooperated with each other they might have co-existed through the basement hideway. In the flood scene we see Mr. Kim protecting a small box of valuables as he slowly exits his basement hovel. As Mr. Kim looks sadly around the room I wondered if he was longing for his past life. When human nature loses compassion to power and cruelty, humanity is lost. The poignant ending beautifully transitions from a son's dream to heart-breaking reality.

The acting was memorable, but the story was rather depressing.

Well, I neither loved nor hated it. I just did not get the point of it. Part slap-stick comedy and part sad and depressing. I seem to remember this getting some awards or at least nominations. Not sure why. I did like the rich peoples house and garden though. Personally, I will take a good BBC series any day.

Based on the comments so far, you'll either LOVE it or HATE it, all caps and no middles. You'll either write a short one sentence [hated/loved] it review or you'll write a multi-paragraph dissertation on why it is [amazing/awful]. To me, that means it is required viewing, because it will be a thought-provoking, powerfully moving, well-crafted piece of art, which it exactly how I felt after watching it. Definitely worthy of every award it received!

After waiting to borrow "EXCEPTIONALLY POPULAR 2020 DVD movie from the Library, it is so futile watching it.
The movie name 'PARASITE", thought referred a disease in Southeast Asia (korea), that killed everyone. Since interested in watching the entire 2hr 12min DVD movie, I still "NOW" don't understand why the movie was called "parasite" in the first place. The only mysterious thing is a (deadly peach-dust) off a ripe peach, that kills instantly on contact.
/
After reading ALL (critics & audiences) REVIEWS on popular movie review websites (rotten tomatoes, IMDb), I “NOW THINK” those reviews were SO FABRICATED to improve the reputations about the NEW YOUNG KOREA DIRECTOR "Bong Joon Ho"
/
Also, I had “NO” problems with the other 67 library users before me (4 1/2 STARS - 5 STARS) rating and comments {USING THEIR 1st AMENDMENT Free Speech}, on how impressed they were before I saw it. My ADULT JUDGEMENT of movie, when I actually saw where 500 different (4-minute segments) during filming process; changed location - filmed 4mins, changed location - filmed 4mins, changed location - filmed 4mins, changed location - filmed 4mins, (to complete the entire filming production for 2hr 12min DVD movie viewing time).
/
Realizing it is impossible to give 0-STAR RATING in my opinion, BECAUSE OF ALL THE PREVIOUSLY 67 POSITIVE REVIEWS BEFORE ME. This entire 2h-12m movie was so splicing together, (each different 500 portion) never did not matched to the next section. As I watched entire movie, the only interesting parts are 1) In the beginning - teenage discovery of new love, parents finding a child's diary (remember this a Korean Movie and they are all talking in foreign language), 2) Middle - actor dressing in a very expensive suit, in very expensive Mercedes Benz cars, but chauffeur never driving actor anywhere (instead gives an older actor a mysterious white business card with 1 company. Chauffeur explaining the older actor (50-60 years old); this is a very secretive exclusive club for just the most prominent people in Korea - (LIKE A SECRET ADULT ENTERTAINMENT CLUB FOR MEN), 3) 3/4 through movie - parents acting out love screens through later movie - After wife finding bizarre Women’s Panties in his car and 4) Ending - teenage daughter drugging/killing parents with exotic fast food delivery - So she could be with male tutor/now boyfriend; who actually knew nothing about tutoring a young female teenager [as demonstrated before he moved in with her family (parents) ] and seductively have sex behind parent's back with teenager.
/
Maybe since there are so many very influential reviews, possibility that individuals in Southeast Asia counties of (Korea, Japan) understand this movie better.
But as a US BORN CITIZEN living in the United States, this entire movie was beyond ridiculous to the point to near excessive nonsense.
/
WATCHING THIS MOVIE "R-RATING" by library for (LANGUAGE, VIOLENCE, SEXUAL CONTEXT)
AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION (you MAY OR NOT LIKE it). I sure determined/thought it was ‘LUDICROUS AND POINTLESS” - MY PERSONAL OPINION “0-STARS AND NEGATIVE -10 BEYOND THAT”.
/
MY PERSONAL ADULT Comment (never based upon whatever I read before this "MY" library review): I seriously feel “SADNESS FOR THE OTHER 150 LIBRARY INDIVIDUALS AFTER ME”, THAT ARE STILL PATIENTLY WAITING TO WATCH ‘PARASITE-2020 KOREAN Movie’ (DVD version) - becoming aware afterwards of what stupidity the movie is literally about.
DVD HOLDER says: "SENSATIONALLY ENTERTAINING": NO!!! - VERY CLOSE TO PATHETIC movie
note: I cannot use Blu-ray version - can't make no remark about happens on Blu-ray

At first comic, then a social commentary, on to a fight to the death, and finally redemption. Be prepared to not be prepared.

"You know what kind of plan never fails? No plan. No plan at all. You know why? Because life cannot be planned. Look around you. Did you think these people made a plan to sleep in the sports hall with you? But here we are now, sleeping together on the floor. So, there's no need for a plan. You can't go wrong with no plans. We don't need to make a plan for anything. It doesn't matter what will happen next. Even if the country gets destroyed or sold out, nobody cares. Got it?"

Kim Ki-woo: Dad, today I made a plan - a fundamental plan. I'm going to earn money, a lot of it. University, a career, marriage, those are all fine, but first I'll earn money. When I have money, I'll buy the house. On the day we move in, Mom and I will be in the yard. Because the sunshine is so nice there. All you'll need to do is walk up the stairs. Take care until then. So long.

Lady are you crazy? If they see that video, Mr. Park and his wife will be so shocked! What did those nice people ever do wrong? Why do this to them?
-Stop right there! Or I'll push the 'send' button.
===
Honey, this 'send' button is like a missile launcher.
-What do you mean, honey?
If we threaten to push it. those people can't do anything. It's like a North Korean rocket.
===
She's rich, but still nice.
-Not "rich, but still nice." She's nice because she's rich. Hell, if I had all this money. I'd be nice, too!
===
Rich people are naive. No resentments. No creases on them.
-It all gets ironed out. Money is an iron. Those creases all get smoothed out.
===
My wife has no talent for housework. She's bad at cleaning, and her cooking's awful.
-Still, you love her, right?
Of course. I love her. We'll call it love.

A lot of planning (scheming,) P1 of 2:

Now our Wi-Fi is shut off. What's your plan?
===
I don't think of this as forgery or crime. I'll go this university next year.
-So you've got a plan!
===
To extract a woman like that, we need to prepare well.
-Right, we need a plan.
==
What do we do? This isn't in the plan.
===
Dad was going on about some plan...

A lot of planning (scheming,) P2 of 2:

You don't have a plan?
-I just feel comfortable here.
===
What do we do now, what's our plan?
-I've been wondering... What would Min do in this situation?
Min wouldn't be in this situation!
===
So nothing happened. You understand? I've got my own plan.
===
Ki-woo, you know what kind of plan never fails? No plan at all.
-No plan.
You know why? If you make a plan, life never works out that way. Look around us. Did these people think, "Let's all spend the night in a gym?" But look now. Everyone's sleeping on the floor, us included. That's why people shouldn't make plans. With no plan, nothing can go wrong. And if something spins out of control, it doesn't matter. Whether you kill someone or betray your country. None of it fucking matters.
Got it?
