A great play about keeping one's integrity intact. Whether or not you share More's religious views does not matter-- what makes him heroic is his unwillingness to play the hypocrite or betray his conscience, and those are qualities anyone of any background can appreciate.

I've always loved reading plays and this classic historical was right up my alley: sharp, intelligent dialogue; great prologue; subtle and incisive themes and insight. I would enjoy a debate with Mr. Bolt about just how saintly Sir Thomas More really was, but what's wrong with some scholarly disagreement? Immensely quotable and quite enjoyable. I would have rated it higher if it weren't for the woefully clunky and unnecessary Common Man character needlessly making asides to the audience.

A man who will stand by his principles, no matter what the consequences are.

Oh my goodness, this is such a great book. If you ever have the chance to see this play in person, do it. The story of a man who was willing to sacrifice everything, except his conscience and his beliefs. Absolutely amazing and a very inspiring story. It still almost overwhelms me every time I read it.
