I totally agree with the comments by Chapel_Hill_MarthaW. Eva Ibbotson is one of my all-time favourite authors, and her adult (now rebadged as YA) romances deserve to be better known. Her style can be described as real-life fairytale - her characters tend to fall into well-known archetypes (yes that can make them somewhat repetitive, and it helps if you can suspend any disbelief) - but in combination with the historical settings , the result totally justifies descriptions such as "delightful" and "charming". The Morning Gift is my favourite of the Ibbotson romances - perhaps it is due to the scientific setting, another fave of mine - and it's a book that I re-read regularly, whenever things are a bit gloomy and I need a bit of sparkle in my life.
