The Social Network is a phenomenal film that once again proves the directorial merits of David Fincher, in what is perhaps his best film. The film's biggest achievement is undoubtedly the writing by Fincher. The Social Network has a refreshing sense of self-awareness in that it knows what to show. Mark Zuckerberg isn't known for his genius intellect or his mischief at Harvard - he's known for Facebook. Hence, the film focuses on Facebook for a large chunk of its narrative. Fincher also does some superb things with the narrative structure - it uses a non-linear format and alternates between both lawsuits that Zuckerberg underwent. This helps to keep the tension alive, even if we are aware of the outcome. The dialogue is quite good, as is the depiction of how corporates work and how student life thrives (the scenes at Harvard are shot beautifully by the cinematographer). I loved how the characters were fully formed, especially Mark Zuckerberg - we understand his egoism and struggle to prove his intellect, largely because Jesse Eisenberg performs beautifully. I wished the casting had been better (though Divya Narendra is mimicked nicely) and the film could've explored a bit more on how the lawsuits impacted Zuckerberg's family, but these aren't major flaws in what is otherwise an expertly made biopic that shows how well a biopic can be made. Rating = 4/5 @SSGDP of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board Based on the true story of Mark Zuckerberg finding Facebook, shows his journey through college as well as all the legal battles he faced along the way. Within years, this young man found himself to be one of the youngest billionaires in the world. This movie tells you more about Mark as a person as he came to be who he is today. The performance by Jesse Eisenberg was astounding, and the cinematography and directing was very impressive as well. I would rate this well-told story 4.5/5 stars, and recommend it to those with an interest in true story films. @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library
