I loved this book. I have read a lot of books in this genre and this is one of the best available. Race is real, just ask any mixed race person who needs a bone marrow transplant: Your chances of a match are zero, in other words, being mixed race is a death sentence if you need a bone marrow transplant because not one other person on the planet will match your odd combination of DNA. DNA defines race. Does that mean we have to mistreat each other based on race? Not at all! We need only understand that not everyone is identical twins, people differ based on DNA, and it's nobody's fault but your ancestors.
