Quite possibly the perfect LGBTQ teen novel! The book revisits old tropes without being dull about it, introduces new ones, and avoids most of the angst of your run-of-the-mill coming out teen story. In fact, while Simon is in the closet to his family, it has nothing to do with fear of rejection and more that he knows they'll make a big deal about and, ugh. The books is humorous where it needs to be and serious when called for. The story made me glad social media wasn't a thing when I was coming out, but also provided insight into what queer teens face in this day of blogs and mass text messages.
