I think this latest book is one of the best ones in the whole series. Of course, all series should be read in order for maximum enjoyment and to see the characters develop over time, but this book was really good! The primary story involves community worry that a corrupt real estate developer wants to build The Big Fun Hotel (its real name) next to a graveyard. People are horrified that there will be people having loud parties next to the graveyard. It looks like a done deal because the developer has paid off several members of the local council that has to vote on approving the hotel. But there is one vacancy on the council, and Mma Potokwane (the lady who runs the orphan farm) thinks Mma Ramotswe should run for that council seat. It is the last thing Mma Ramotswe wants to do. But Violet Sephotho is the only other candidate who has filed, and she would be a disaster! So Mma Ramotswe runs, with a most unorthodox campaign. Her interview with the local newspaper is priceless. (This is all a fairy tale, but I loved it anyway!) This book also shows major character development of Charlie, one of the apprentices to Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni. In earlier books, he has seemed very immature and useless, but he is finally growing up. I enjoyed this book very much!
