"In the late 1980s, in New England, a group of children play at the edge of a family party. While exploring their aunt's house, they lose the youngest cousin among them -- but their parents are unconcerned, preoccupied by decades-old resentments and drinking beer on the deck. So the group sets out to look for the missing child themselves, venturing out of the house and toward the rickety chicken coop, the barn with its two horses, and eventually the forest that was once their late grandmother's property.
