Your appliances are out to get you.
An under-the-radar horror novel that will h ave you thinking about the airwaves and disc jockeys with a little trepidation. Joaquin is a former punk rocker hosting 'Ghost Radio,' a call-in show on Mexican airwaves. As the survivor of a deadly ar crash that killed his own and his best friend Gabriel's parents, Joaquin feels sympathy and skepticism for his callers' tales about odd hauntings and demonic encounters. And he hears quite a few creepy ghost stories during the radio witching hours. When an American producer offers a time slot for the show on a station furher north, Joaquin is forced to pick up a loose thread from his past, one invovling Gabriel's death in a horrific accident and his own personal ghost story--the one Joaquin refuses to share. Because Joaquin's ghost is angry, and vengeful, and lives in the airwaves. A deft blend of radio science, paranormal, and call-in show culture. Good midnight reading for the overnight radio host.Your appliances are out to get you.

It's the weekend and I wanted a Christopher Elbow equivalent of a biblio-bonbon. And I got it with this book. I'm not usually a romance reader, but this was a charming book. It's fairly short by romance standards and a cross over for two of the author's series, The Ravenels and the Wallflowers. Readers who are all caught up with both series will definitely get more delight out of this book than someone coming at the series with no knowledge at all of the players (like me). The conflict between the lovers is a little thin, but no matter, the humor and whimsy of the story will be the lasting appeal for the readers. It's the weekend and I wanted a Christopher Elbow equivalent of a biblio-bonbon. There's no room for extra, whether it's words or drama, in a heist. Von Doviak's debut crime novel moves in (and between) triple time using one of the greatest unsolved art thefts to propel an intricate plot. In 1946 a small group of career criminals rob a Boston museum and stash the loot in a seedy hotel, the Charlesgate. Fast forward forty years and the seedy hotel is now a college dorm and one of the robbers is out on parole eager to recover a fortune in art. Jump ahead another thirty years and a recent grisly murder in the now upscale Charlesgate condo leads a detective on the trail of the unrecovered paintings and a possibly career-ending case. The old-fashioned crime thriller gets an update in story and setting but retains all the classic elements of rapid fire dialogue and plot twists. There's no room for extra, whether it's words or drama, in a heist.
